paul Still Walking The Line

I continue to teeter on the edge of good and bad eating habits. Overall, I am still being pretty good about not eating eggs, meat, and cheese. This should continue my positive cholesterol results. However, I have been eating a lot of pasta lately. It is really good pasta with a spicy peanut sauce. It is really cheap and it is difficult to avoid buying it. I jumped on the scale the other day expecting the worst. It wasn't as bad as I had feared. This gave me confidence that I can get back on t… Continue

paul Still Getting Back On Track - Slowly

My motivation to lose weight took a big hit when I got a positive result from a recent cholesterol test. I'm having two basic problems. First, I have young children and sit down restaurants don't work for us. This means that if we go out to eat, we go to buffet restaurants. This way we can get a plate for the kids right away and we can pick and choose what we think they will like. It makes everything easier, but it also leads to my wife and I eating at buffet restaurants. With so much to try a… Continue

paul Slowly Getting Back On Track

I'm getting some momentum going again in my effort to lose weight. The good (actually great) results from my latest cholesterol test really set back my motivation. Yes, the bad cholesterol test was the main factor in getting myself to start this quest to lose a lot of weight. However, I also want to lose weight to look and feel better. I also want to accomplish something. I also know that my cholesterol can get bad again if I don't watch what I eat. I had not eaten a lot of meat or eggs that… Continue

paul Good Report = Lack Of Motivation

One of the reason's I was doing so well with my weight loss efforts was because I was scared straight by a bad cholesterol test. I dramitically changed my diet and a recent test now shows that I am back in the normal range after only 8 months. Now my motivation is gone. My diet is falling apart. I need to stay on track. I know my cholesterol can go back up and so can the weight. I wasn't only losing weight for the cholesterol reason, I also wanted to lose weight to look and feel better. I need… Continue

paul Great Results!

I started my diet push when I got a cholesterol test and found out that I was very high in most categories. I have been on a mission to lose weight and also to stop eating things that add cholesterol to my body. I have greatly reduced my intake of meat, cheese, and eggs. Well, the effort has paid off. I have lost some weight - although I still want to lose a lot more - and I just got some great results form my blood test today. I have improved my cholesterol levels in all categories. Not jus… Continue

paul Holidays Going Well - Staying On Diet Plan

My Halloween & Thanksgiving holiday period was not a good one for my waistline. It didn't help that the girl scout cookies were delivered around that time as well. I made a commitment to do better over the Christmas holiday. So far, I am staying on a good path. I brought along a big thing of unsalted roasted almonds. When I get hungry I eat some almonds and that reduces my risk of making other bad food choices. I have done a good job with portion control and I have avoided most of the dess… Continue

paul Positive Momentum Continues

My breaking free of the Thanksgiving eating habits in order to get back on track with some positive momentum going into the next round of holidays is going well. Even when I think I might have overdone it with some binge eating, my weight continues to go down because overall I am doing really well with the food choices I am making. Basically lots of oatmeal and vegetables. Hopefully the positive momentum can continue through the holidays. I feel like the more I write about it here, the more I… Continue

paul Back On The Wagon - Again

My weight is heading down again after a terrible run in with Halloween candy, girl scout cookies, and a 20 pound turkey during Thanksgiving. Even with the knowledge that food temptations were coming, I still didn't do as well as I hoped during the last month. My goal now is to get some momentum and some positive results before the Christmas and New Years holidays. Hopefully I will pass the next test better than I failed the last test. Last week, I hit that point where I knew I needed to get b… Continue

paul Beware: Good Food Temptations Ahead

Losing weight is hard enough, but now we are entering a streatch of good food temptations. Haloween kicked it off as we ended up having too much candy and not enough trick or treaters. The candy bowl is almost gone just in time for the girl scout cookies that just arrived. I shouldn't have bought so many cookies, but $21 seemed like a nice donation for the neighbor girl. Once the girl scout cookies are gone, we will enter the holiday season with all sorts of big dinners at multiple relative's… Continue

paul Late Night Eating Hurting My Weight Loss Goals

I've been doing pretty well with my weight loss goals, but I have stopped losing weight as I have started to eat late at night again. I know I just need to stop. In order to stop I need to stop having a couple of beers at night. My stomach doesn't like beer as much as my mind does so I like to eat something after I've had a few. I have had some stress during the day taking care of my kids each day. When the kids go to bed all I want to do is relax and enjoy myself. I should just go to sleep, b… Continue

paul Self Image And Weight Loss

I have come a long way in my pursuit of weight loss. I have lost about 20 pounds and plan to lose 20 more. The problem I am having right now is that I don't look like I have lost 20 pounds. I know I have because the scale tells me I have, but I look in the mirror and I look the same. Maybe it is just how I am looking at myself. My wife and family tells me I look thinner, but I don't see it yet. The good news is that I know I can lose another 20 pounds because I can see at least another 20 po… Continue

I am going to have to hold off on the sweets, my cholesterol has been testing high. It has concerned me that my Medical insurance premiums might be affected. And the last thing that I want to do is have Heart surgery. I did start on medication this summer and have noticed improvement. I tired diet and exercise, but… Continue

paul Lowest Weight In Years

I'm now at my lowest weight in many years. I have mainly achieved this through a change in what I eat. When I started this weight loss process, I also had an exercise routine I was following, but lately it has just been a change in what I eat that makes the biggest difference. I try not to eat meat, eggs, or dairy products. I'm not super strict about this, but overall, my consumption of these things has been greatly reduced. I also try to reduce the amount of food I eat along with increasing t… Continue

paul Roller Coaster Weight Ride

With the birth of my daughter, my effort to lose weight has lost some of its steam. In some ways, I am more determined than ever to lose weight. I want to see as much of my daughter's life as possible. The problem is that my normal schedule has been destroyed. I am staying up late to do feedings. I wake up late beyond my normal breakfast time. I don't plan ahead for meals and have been going out to eat or ordering food a lot. Also, my family and neighbors are really nice so we have been getti… Continue

paul Back On The Wagon Weigh In

I got off the diet wagon for a little while. Not in a major way, but I was slipping with some of my rules. I also have had some changes in my family life so I have been eating out more with my family and hosting meals with visiting relatives. There are a lot of reasons why I started to slip with my diet plan, but the simple fact is that I need to get going once again. I am really happy that I lost 15 pounds during my first real diet push and now I want to lose an additional 10 pounds in the nex… Continue

lea How Much Should I Weigh?

I often ask myself, "How much should I weigh" but I never knew the answer. Well, I finally took the time to figure it out. Generally, the base ideal weight for women at 5 feet tall is 100 pounds. You then add 5 pounds for each inch over 5 feet that you are. For men, the base ideal weight at 5 feet tall is 106 pounds. Add 6 pounds for each inch over 5 feet tall you are. I, like most Americans, am heavier than I should be. This places me at higher risk for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and… Continue

paul Is My Body Craving Calories?

I have been doing pretty well with my weight lose goals. I have lost 15 pounds within the past couple of months and feel like I can continue doing what I am doing to lose more weight to achieve my ultimate goals. One problem I am having now is that I think my body is craving calories at the end of the day. I eat a small breakfast and lunch so by the time I get to dinner, my body and mind are ready to feast in a major way. I thought this was just a mental thing I could control, but it also make… Continue
