Many of us consume way too much sodium each day.
We are only supposed to have 2,000 to 3,000 mg of sodium each day, but most of us have closer to 8,000 to 10,000 mg each day.
Only a small percentage of our sodium intake comes from the salt shaker. Most of it comes from canned and processed foods we eat.
For example, I would think that a can of refried beans would be pretty healthy. However, while it is low in fat and has protein, it has 300 to 500 mg of sodium per serving.
Take a look at a can of soup the next time you are about to eat it. Not only does it say there is a lot fo sodium in it, but the number listed is usually only for half the can of soup. Does anyone eat only a half can of soup?
Too much sodium in our diet can lead to high blood pressure which can lead to heart problems.
